Learning
Vision Academy Charter School of Excellence’s educational approach is guided by the Core Knowledge Sequence, which serves as a comprehensive roadmap for our students’ learning journey. This sequence has been thoughtfully adapted to align with Pennsylvania State Learning Standards and Common Core, ensuring that our students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for success in high school and beyond.
Our teaching methodology, Direct Instruction (DI), is meticulously designed to deliver small, incremental lessons, reducing misunderstandings and accelerating learning. It complements the Core Knowledge Sequence, providing a structured framework for our educators. To ensure effectiveness, we emphasize full immersion implementation, focusing on acceleration and accountability. Teachers create detailed lesson plans that align with the Core Knowledge Sequence and utilize various assessments to monitor student progress.
In addition to traditional testing, we believe in the power of project-based learning. Our students engage in collaborative projects that address real-world problems, fostering critical thinking and teamwork skills. These projects culminate in our annual “Curriculum Night” events, where students proudly showcase their work to the community. This highlights their academic achievements and promotes life skills like communication and presentation.
For upper-grade students, we introduce the flipped classroom model, where instruction is delivered outside the classroom through interactive resources. This approach encourages independent learning, self-assessment, and active class participation. We aim to empower students to take control of their education and develop strong problem-solving skills.
Recognizing that some students may need additional support, we offer an Extended Day Program. This program provides extra academic assistance and opportunities for participation in clubs and competitions, enriching their overall learning experience.
Maintaining a positive and orderly learning environment is crucial. We implement a school-wide and individual positive behavior support system, focusing on prevention rather than punishment. This approach fosters a culture of learning and respect.
We strongly believe in parental involvement and have partnered with the National Network of Partnership Schools to engage families in their child’s education. Education is a collaborative effort between parents, students, and staff.
Finally, we are committed to raising global citizens with strong communication skills. Our language instruction program offers students a unique opportunity to acquire proficiency in various languages, setting them on a path to understanding different cultures better and facilitating their intellectual growth.
Vision Academy Charter School of Excellence is dedicated to providing a well-rounded education that equips our students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset needed to succeed in an ever-changing world.
